Famous Name Changes: From dreft to Tide!

As usual, I am fascinated by major brand name changes, so was amazed to read that the big market leader Tide, like in laundry detergent, started life as dreft. Even though it may not have been a direct name change, I can’t help but list this on our ever growing collection of Famous Brand Name Changes.
Having done a little more research, I discover that Dreft is still a popular laundry detergent, now positioned as specially for kids… if you get my drift… I mean dreft.  What the heck is a dreft anyway?  And what an awkward word! Only P&G could get away with creating big market share with such an ugly sounding name.
