Background:

Before this name gets compacted out of sight by H-P, we couldn’t help but air it one more time. Thank you Ben Rosen for investing in the company originally and convincing them to use a naming agency to come up with something better than Bridge Gate Computers! Yes, that was their original name. So now, while this name was originally chosen because of their “luggable” computers, the name was not too specific and has survived the test of time. Even though Compaq now makes a wide range of systems.

Unique, simple, memorable, with a sticky “q” consonant.

PS Will the Compaq Arena (fondly known as the Shark Tank in San Jose) now be renamed the HP Pavilion?
